Arun Jaitley is an Indian politician and lawyer. As a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Jaitley served as Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of the Government of India from 2014 to 2019. Jaitley previously held positions in cabinets including finance, national division, corporate affairs, commerce and industry, law and justice. in the Vajpayee government and the Narendra Modi government. From 2009 to 2014, he served as the leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha. He was previously Senior Counsel at the Supreme Court of India. He oversees the application of the goods and services tax which places the country under a GST regime, eliminates wages, merges the rail budget with the general budget and introduces the bankruptcy and bankruptcy code. Jaitley decided not to join Modi's cabinet for the second time in 2019, due to health concerns. He received the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honor, after being awarded in 2020 in the field of public service.
