Victoria, the Royal Princess is the Empress of Germany and the Queen of Prussia is the wife of the German Emperor Frederick III. She was the eldest of Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Albert, Prince Consort, and was made Royal Princess in 1841. She was the mother of Wilhelm II, Emperor of Germany. Educated by her father in a politically free environment, at the age of 17, Victoria married Prince Frederick of Prussia, with whom she had eight children. Victoria shared her liberal view with Frederick and hoped that Prussia and the German Empire would become a constitutional monarchy in the future, based on the British model. Criticized for this attitude and for her British roots, Victoria was ostracized by Hohenzollerns and the Berlin court. This isolation intensified after Otto von Bismarck came to power in 1862. Victoria was only queen for a few months, during which time she had the opportunity to influence the policies of the German Empire.
In 1858, she married Frederick III of Germany, the son of Queen Victoria. When her husband became King of Prussia in 1888, she became German Empress and Queen of Prussia.
