Following the passing of Henry Boucha, 72, the hockey community is mourning the loss of a native son from northwest Minnesota.
From the time he was a little child, Boucha, who was born in Warroad, excelled at Minnesota’s sport. He was a standout winger for Warroad High School and helped the team win the Minnesota High School State Hockey Tournament in 1969. The public became aware of Boucha’s rising star, but the team lost the championship game to Edina in overtime because of his injury.
Boucha was requested to join the U.S. National Team while serving in the U.S. Army, and he did so. Boucha participated in the 1972 Olympics, when the Americans won silver.
