Julissa D'Anne Gomez is an American gymnast, whose rapid rise in the ranks of elite gymnasts in the mid-1980s was interrupted by an accident; a crash in 1988 left her a quadriplegic. Ultimately, she died from her injury. She was trained by Al Fong, and previously trained by Bela Karolyi. Her injury caused major changes in women's gymnastics in an effort to prevent such serious injuries.
