His father, Eduard Peter Fazer, was a farmer of Swiss origin. Fazer studied bakery in Berlin, Paris and St. Petersburg before becoming a pioneer of Finnish confection. With his wife Berta, he opened a Franco-Russian confectionery at Glogatan 3 in Helsinki on September 17, 1891. He then opened a confectionery and chocolate factory in Punavuori. Fazer, the company he founded, still exists. Many of its products have become classics. This is especially true of "Fazer Blue", a chocolate brand often compared to salmiakki, as a candy that is part of the Finnish national identity.
