American linebacker Marvin Lee Kellum, who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for four seasons from June 23, 1952, through February 4, 2023, was a professional football player. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals, the first two World Championships won by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Super Bowls IX and X.

The first touchdown of Super Bowl IX was the result of a fumble recovery by Kellum on the opening kickoff of the second half. With the Steelers, he was primarily utilized on special teams.

A GoFundMe page set up to support the former NFL player in battling his sickness states that Marv was “diagnosed with stomach cancer and multiple myeloma cancer.” The website continued to update friends and supporters, saying, “As with everything he sets out to do, he is working hard to defeat this cancer.”

Indeed, in support of the “fighting hard” spirit they witnessed on the field in 1975, fans responded on social media. Thanks to Marv recovering a fumble, the Steelers were able to triumph 16–6.

According to Steelers Nation, Marv is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandy, their two sons, and their four grandchildren. The Kansas native was described as “a true inspiration, a fighter, a hard worker, a terrific family man, and a friend to all that know him” on his GoFundMe page.

Fans will always remember the Steelers for the brilliant play, which is presently drawing plaudits online and will always be remembered as a lasting ode to Marv.
