Rakesh Roshan is an Indian producer, director, screenwriter, editor and former actor of Hindi films. He is the son of Indian music director Roshanlal Nagrath. He appeared in 84 films during the 1970s and 1980s until 1989. As an actor, he is best known for his supporting roles in big budget movies starring Sanjeev Kumar and Rajesh Khanna in the lead roles. He later rose to fame making films with titles beginning with the letter "K" in 1987. As a filmmaker, his most notable works include the Khudgarz TV series, the revenge drama Khoon Bhari Maang, the comedy Kishen Kanhaiya, the crime thriller. Karan Arjun, Kaho Naa ... Pyaar Hai, Sci-Fi Koi ... Mil Gaya and Krrish Superhero Series. Roshan won the Filmfare Award for Best Director for directing films; Kaho Naa ... Pyaar Hai and Koi ... Mil Gaya. He is the father of actor Hrithik Roshan. In January 2019, Roshan was diagnosed with early stage squamous cell carcinoma of the throat.
