NFL Draft 2019: Giants to meet with West Virginia QB Will Grier | Scouting report, highlights

The Giants continue to do their homework on the top quarterback prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Head coach Pat Shurmur was in Morgantown Thursday to watch Will Grier throw at West Virginia’s Pro Day.
According to reports, Grier will be meeting with the Giants, who own two first-round picks in the draft, No. 6 and No. 17.
Grier, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds had a stellar senior season in which he completed 67 percent of his passes for 3,864 yards with 37 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

While Grier has seen his NFL Draft stock rise in recent weeks, he was wildly inconsistent during his throwing session at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, earlier this month.

Grier was both choppy and inconsistent throughout. On the deeper throws, there seemed to be an odd hitch in his delivery. On the out patterns, Grier did not complete a pass, on the deep-ins, he had two throws that were low and behind and another that he sailed over the quarterback’s head. Slant patterns were Grier’s best throws
Shurmur was on hand for Grier’s Pro Day, while Giants offensive coordinator Mike Shula took in Drew Lock’s Pro Day at the University of Missouri.

You can check out a scouting report of Grier, via The Draft Network, below:

PROS: Seamless technique in his drops. Smooth operator. Has the ability to read the defense and deliver the ball with a quick release. Possesses the necessary arm strength and generates enough torque to fit the ball through intermediate windows and holes in the defense. Can throw with touch to all areas of the field. Accurate in the short and intermediate areas of the field. Aware of leverage and can hit back shoulder throws. Thrives driving the ball up the seam. Mobile in the pocket and has the athleticism to move out of a structure. Off-platform throws or on the run throws are still accurate. Can offer an additional dynamic with his above average athleticism and mobility. Passionate leader.
Cons: Doesn’t quite have an NFL build, and could stand to add some thickness. On the shorter side for QB’s, and isn’t full of strength. Accuracy can come and go on deep balls. Plays in an offense that affords him the opportunity to make a lot of throws against man coverage, and hasn’t really shown the ability to manipulate zone coverages. Though he’s able to make throws while off base, sometimes he puts himself in that situation by floating away from cleaner pockets.
